Geodes are rocks with a secret. The exterior of the most common geodes is generally limestone or a related rock, but inside is a sparkly quartz crystal or chalcedony deposits. Geodes are rock cavities (or vugs) with internal crystal formations or concentric banding. Some types of geodes, called nodules, are completely filled with crystals.

The Word Geode comes from the Greek word “geoides,” meaning earthlike."
